They competed against eight other teams throughout the night. The ICHSA — International Championship of High School A Cappella — was founded in 2001 out of the growing interest in a cappella singing at the high school level. The tournament now has grown to include 150 groups competing in quarterfinals and semifinals in 8 regions nationwide.
About Vox Blue (“Blue Voice”)
Vox Blue is an auditioned competitive a cappella ensemble. Students must pass an audition that will assess their vocal range, tone quality, and musicianship skills. This ensemble is reserved for experienced choral musicians that are willing to make a commitment to musical excellence. Due to competition eligibility requirements, the ensemble must consist of 18 members or less. In order to determine those who qualify for the ensemble, students will be assessed by a rubric and will need to attain a certain score in order to be accepted into the ensemble.
This ensemble covers contemporary music of different genres, in the style of a cappella, or singing without any instrumental accompaniment, with an emphasis on competing in local, state, national, and international a cappella competitions. Hosted by Varsity Vocals, Vox Blue competes annually in the International Championship of High School A Cappella every spring. This competition is the high school version of the competition from the movie Pitch Perfect!. This ensemble performs at the Annual Winter Concert, District Arts Festival, and Spring Concert, as well as additional performances as they become available to the director. This ensemble meets once a week on Thursdays from 5:00-8:00pm, in addition to extra rehearsals as needed and select Unit Lunch periods. In order to join, students must audition at the beginning of the year.
